Female Health

All of our doctors hold family planning certification. We will discuss all of your options and find the most suitable option for each individual. Contraceptive options we provide include

  • Pill prescriptions
  • Emergency contraception(please be advised that if booking an appointment for emergency contraception that you let the staff know this is an urgent appointment and needs to be scheduled on the same day)
  • Depo-provera (injection)
  • Implanon insertion and removal
  • Intrauterine contraception
  • Pregnancy Care/Combined Care

During your pregnancy you have the option of combined care, where your appointments are shared between your obstetrician and your GP. You should attend your GP as soon as you discover you are pregnant. Your scheduled visits are all free of charge once the pregnancy is registered to the HSE.

You and your baby will also be seen at 2 and 6 weeks after your delivery. Our practice nurse Ida is a trained midwife and has vast experience in providing antenatal care. She also provides provide antenatal classes by request.


Cervical smear tests

The cervical smear programme is run by cervicalcheck. All women are illegible for a free smear test between the ages of 25-60.

If you have never had a smear test before, and you are between 25-60 you can register in two ways-online at www.cervicalcheck.ie, or by freephone 1800454555. If you are unsure whether are not you are due a smear you can check online. You will need to enter your personal details and PPS No.

Once you have received your letter of invitation form Cervicalcheck you can make an appointment for a free smear test.

If you would like an additional smear to those in the screening programme for any reason we can facilitate this. However there will be a charge for this service.

STI screening

We offer screening and treatment for a full range of sexually transmitted infections(STI’s). The testing usually involves urine and blood samples. Occasionally we will need to take vaginal swabs also.

It is worth noting that many sexual transmitted infections have no symptoms. So if you are sexually active it is advisable to get yourself screened on a regular basis.

Other services provided include breast checks and menopausal counselling.
