It is essential to be prepared when travelling abroad. We provide a full range of vaccinations including:
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Tetanus
- Diptheria
- Pertussis (whooping cough)
- Typhoid
- Rabies
- Yellow Fever
If there is additional vaccinations required for your destination we will endeavour to provide this for you. In addition to vaccinations we will provide pre-travel general medical travel advice and any other recommended prescriptions.
Flu and Pneumonia Vaccine
Each year a flu vaccination is provided that has the commonest current strain of influenza. It is available around October time. Certain individuals are recommended to have the vaccine every year.
The HSE recommends that the following receive the flu vaccine:
- Persons aged 65 and over,
- Those with a long-term medical condition such as diabetes, heart or lung disease,
- People whose immune system is impaired due to disease or treatment,
- Persons with a body mass index (BMI) over 40,
- Pregnant women (can be given at any stage of pregnancy),
- Residents of nursing homes and other long stay institutions,
- Healthcare workers,
- Carers,
- People with regular close contact with poultry, water fowl or pigs
In addition to the groups listed above, many people chose to have the flu vaccine to reduce the risk of influenza.
An appointment for the vaccination takes only a few minutes.
The vaccine is free for the following:
- Medical card holders, aged over 65 years old
- Those with long term medical conditions who have a medical card
- Those who are carers for sufferers of long-term medical conditions
Pneumonia vaccine
Pneumococcal disease is a very serious disease. It is a major cause of illness and death, particularly amongst the very young. Those with the following conditions should be vaccinated with PPV23.
- Everybody aged 65 years and over
- Also those aged over 2 years with ;
- Diabetes mellitus
- Chronic heart, respiratory or liver disease
- Chronic renal disease, nephrotic syndrome, renal transplant
- Sickle cell disease
- Those with missing or non functioning spleens
- Disorders of the immune system including cancer
- People receiving chemotherapy or other treatments that suppress the immune system
- Persons with HIV infection or AIDS
- Those who have received or are about to receive cochlear transplants
PPV23 vaccination is not recommended for healthy children and adults as they are at low risk of pneumococcal disease (HSE)
